Big Questions To Ask For A Big Life
When I hop on a call with a woman interesting in working together, I ask her three questions:
If you could wave a magic wand and create your ideal work + life scenario, what would that look like?
What is currently holding you back from going for that dream?
What is your plan for getting there?
Inevitably the answer to question #2 involves, you guessed it, some kind of Fear. (fear is so big and so powerful, it deserves a capital F)
The feeling of Fear, not the thing that is supposedly causing the Fear, can feel so massive and so scary that we won't go near it.
Which is interesting, isn't it? We don't want to take a closer look at the one thing that stands in the way of our greatest dreams and most fully-lived life.
But here's a thought - what happens if we are willing to take a closer look?
Tim Ferris calls this practice fear-setting. I like to call it simply, fear-facing.
When we let our fears swirl around in our minds unexamined and unanalysed, we give them more power than they deserve.
But when we choose to zoom in on our fears and take a look at them up-close, we can deconstruct and even dismantle them. At the very least, we can explore solutions to work through them, instead of allowing them to act as a barrier to everything we want.
When we are brave enough to zoom in on our fears we open the door to begin making decisions from the place of trust, belief in our desires and faith in ourselves.
If you have a dream to leave your corporate career to start a business or change your lifestyle or if you are an entrepreneur wanting to expand along with your business, or if you are noticing yourself holding back from any dream because of Fear, I invite you to ask yourself these questions today:
What exactly am I afraid of? Write down the specifics in list form.
Review each item on the list and ask yourself, how probable is this result?
Then zoom in further - if any of these things were to actually happen (regardless of the probability), what would I do?
These three questions bring you face to face with your fears so you own them - they no longer own you.
Finally, ask yourself the most important questions of all - What could be on the other side of my Fear? And, how will I feel at the end of my life if I allow Fear to stop me?
Big questions = Big life
